Meet the Maker: Kerem Alsan a.k.a Keramikos

Hello there,

We are Deniz & Guniz, formerly known as “Objects of Our Lives” from 10 Hulfish St., Palmer Square in Princeton, NJ. Here, we’re kindly inviting you to our online pop-up store that will be running for the next 3 months. In the process of curating this online pop-up store, we’ve collaborated with our favorite local artists and artisans we met during our travels. We simply aspired to bring together exquisite, unique and authentic home design objects, dinnerware and gift items for you that are mostly hand-made in Turkey, and more specifically in the historic Aegean town of Urla where we are currently visiting, alongside the city of Istanbul.

FAR AWAY, SO CLOSE…

Urla is the town where the ancient Ionian city of Klazomenai is located and surrounded by beautiful beaches, vineyards, olive trees, artichoke farms, palm and fig trees. To give you an idea, olive oil extraction installation found in Klazomenai dates back to the third quarter of the 6th century BC. It is the only surviving example of a level and weights press from an ancient city and precedes by at least two centuries the next securely datable earliest presses found in Greece. Therefore, it’s quite common to locate olive trees in this town that are older than 1000 years.

On this first round of our online pop-up event, we’d also like to feature a ceramic artist from Urla, Kerem Alsan, and his recent work in the form of made-to-order Chef’s plates and salad/fruit bowls under his functional line.

In recent years, Mr Kerem Alsan was exclusively picked and commissioned by a number of renowned Chefs in Turkey and Asia and he has created exquisite dinnerware collections for the Restaurants of these Chefs. Among them are the following: Chef Osman Sezener of OD Urla, Chef Sedat Arslan of Kapha Restaurant, Ismet Saz of Toi Istanbul, Chef Fatih Tutak...

In our online pop-up store, you’ll find Mr Alsan’s Collection for the Home Chefs including plates, platters and salad/fruit bowls which are incorporated with hand-made drawings.

In the creation of this collection, Mr. Alsan was inspired by the fabric of Aegion region’s historic and earthly landscape as well as its natural habitat. The Collection was designed to help the Home Chef’s creations of gastronomic and tactile experiences as well as presentable servings for the guests.

NEW ITEMS, NEW EVERY WEEK…EXQUISITE GIFTS, HOME OBJECTS, DINNERWARE, RARE FINDS, ART PIECES AND MORE...
