WORK-OUT /WORK-IN: What sets ALIGN apart from a regular dance party in a club or a dance lesson with a teacher is that it is not only a “work-out”, but also a “work-in” for body, mind and spirit.
GO WHERE YOUR BODY GOES: It is a mindful space to connect with your body and mind in a non-judgmental space with to simply let loose, follow your instincts and go where your body takes you or even release long standing stiffness from the body. Dance in itself is a way of meditation without needing to know a system or a method, freeing the mind, letting the body´s inner wisdom take over. Your body is your guru.
CONTEMPLATION + MEDITATION: By integrating dance with present moment awareness, body awareness and observation of our underlying emotions, we aim to create a space for contemplation and meditation. From our experience it can be truly transformative.
JUDGEMENT-FREE SPACE: You don't need to be a dancer in order to do this practice. When we hear music and dance with it, we find ourselves in a flow state where our ego identity, personal identity, our resistance, anticipation start to melt down. Dance is the language of the soul. Your only focus throughout conscious dance practice is to be present in your body, go inward and to move however it feels right for you. Notice what thoughts and feelings are going through your mind, and start moving with them. Allow stagnant feelings to come to surface and gently let them go.
ALIGN IS NOT A DANCE CLASS; yet we’ll dance together. Our goal is to inspire you to live from your heart and empower you to get stronger from within, help embrace yourself as you are. We start by breathing into our body, feeling the rhythm and being in the moment. Through the joy of movement and you will rejuvenate yourself, let go of toxic emotions negative energy and worries and connect to pure life energy and ultimately, true happiness.
WELL-BEING: Dr. Deepak Chopra argues that there are 6 pillars of wellbeing. 1. Sleep 2. Stress Management 3. Movement & Exercise 4. Healthy emotions 5. Nutrition 6. Grounding and natural body rhythms. Putting “sleep” factor aside, we aim to inspire you in all these pillars. For example, Meditation and dance can be regarded as contemplative practices that decrease biological consequences of stress. Moreover, dance other than being an excellent work-out, an exercise and movement, when combined with meditation, body as well as emotion awareness, it can be powerful restoration for self regulation.
SO, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU DANCED?
Even in ancient Neolithic times cave paintings were found that showed people dancing in tribes. Every indigenous, shamanic community in the world uses dance as a way to connect with spirit, awaken the Soul and shift the energy within. A medicine man will always ask when somebody comes with an illness: When did you dance the last time? When did you sing the last time? Dancing, music and singing brings joy to the soul and harmony into one’s life. The sound of the carefully selected music helps to slow down the brain waves, soothes the nervous system, increase the vibration in the cells in the body and therefore change cellular memory from negative experiences to positive ones.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Let your body drop into its intuitive knowing of the right movement at the right time, to release energetic blockages, increase body awareness, deepen the breath, de-stress, get out of the head and into the cells and soften the muscles in a way that is needed right now. Once the music sets in and increases from softer, flowing and melodic tunes to more vibrant, eclectic and tribal tracks, the innate capacity of healing energy awakes by itself. Some dancers are so en-tranced by the music and the vibe that their dance only stops when the lights get turned on again and everyone is invited to join the final sharing round, sitting together holding hands or giving hugs to the person next to you, sharing a few words of wisdom of whatever emerged in the dance for everyone.
